Routine, routine

According to Dictionary.com, Routine is: "a customary or regular course of procedure".

It is here that I am discovering the secret to weight loss success. Since my weekend shenanigans I've gone a bit army-like. Let me explain. I've always found that a couple of days of poor choices can unravel weeks of good work so last Sunday I kicked back into the eating pattern I'd set for the last few weeks. Despite some of the old fashioned cravings returning Sunday and Monday I managed to hold firm and walk a straight line.

On top of this I've cracked back into some exercise since Monday and not surprisingly the hard work is beginning to bear fruit. I had a sneaky look at the scales last night and got a nice surprise. Unfortunately for you all though, I think I'll keep it under my hat until the Saturday weigh in. Yeah I know.... "boo", "hiss" and all that jazz, but I'm typing and you're reading so bad luck.

So back to the initial theme, routine. I know this isn't rocket science and many of you probably think this is grade one stuff when living a normal healthy life but for me this is an important realisation. I've tended to avoid routine in my life preferring to go with the flow. The problem with living "on the run" though, is I have rarely considered the days before or the days to come in my daily decision making process. Hence, one bad day rolls into another and another and another.

The beauty of my new-found decision to embrace routine, is the more I do it, the easier it becomes to do. This is a key ingredient to long term success when trying to institute change so I think it's one of the keys to this whole process for me. I'll do my best from here on in to stick to my routine.

Finally, Saturday weeks party is all booked. Food confirmed, bar tab set (although I'm sure it won't last long knowing the crowd that is attending) and eighties music playlists well under way. I'm sure it will be a great night for all and as far as my new-found "fat bastard" journey goes I'll make this promise regarding my behaviour on Saturday night.

You only turn 40 once so FUN will be the only journey I'll be on come Saturday night.
